Notes
  1. In the tables above the maximum center-to-center bar spacing is considered 300 mm and the minimum clear spacing between bars is considered as min(Φ, 20 mm)
  2. The number of reinforcement bars per meter of length should be multiplied by the appropriate distribution length and rounded up to the next larger integer
  3. Reinforcement areas are provided in units of cm2/m or mm2/m for the case of distributed reinforcement bars and units of cm2 or mm2 for the case of individual reinforcement bars. Reinforcement weights are provided in units of kg/m2 for the case of distributed reinforcement bars and units of kg/m for the case of individual reinforcement bars.

Calculation of reinforcement area

The cross-sectional area of a single reinforcement bar is:

As = π ⋅ Φ2 / 4

where Φ is the nominal diameter of the bar.

For n isolated reinforcement bars the total cross-sectional area is:

As,tot = nAs

For distributed reinforcement bars at spacing s the total cross-sectional area is:

As,tot/s = As / s

Calculation of reinforcement weight

The unit weight of reinforcement steel γ is specified in EN1991-1-1 Annex A. The unit weight of steel γ is specified between 77.0 kN/m3 and 78.5 kN/m3. In this calculation the density of reinforcement steel is assumed equal to ρ = 7850 kg/m.

For n isolated reinforcement bars the total weight is:
